Medicines Advice and Management
Woonona Medical Practice offers the convenient services of a pharmacist for advice on the management of your medicines, unique to our practice.
If you have any questions, our pharmacist, Margaret Jordan, can spend time discussing these with you and then your GP, should you choose. Your GP may refer you to Margaret if you have had recent changes in your medical conditions or medicines.
Margaret has been a member of our team for nearly three years and has experience especially in managing medicines for pain, sleep and anticoagulants taken to prevent clots or stroke, known as ‘blood-thinners’.
Some questions you may wish to discuss with Margaret:
What are my medicines for? Can they be used together?
How long do I need to continue with these medicines? Is it possible to reduce some of them?
I have developed what could be a side effect to one of my medicines. How can I check this?
I started new medicines in hospital. Can I find out more about these?
My specialist has recommended a new medicine. Do I still need those prescribed by my GP?
What do I need to do?
If you would like to make a time to speak to Margaret, please ask your GP, one of the practice nurses or reception personnel, who can organise an appointment for you. The best timing is before a booked appointment with your GP.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring to your appointment all of your medicines that you take, puffers or creams that you use. This is important as we have found that sometimes there can be discrepancies. Your records can then be updated which is important if you are seeing specialists as well.
How much will this cost me?
There is no charge for an appointment with Margaret. However, if you are booked for a follow-up with your GP, the normal consultation charges will apply
How long will the appointment with Margaret take?
We usually book an hour appointment for the original appointment, as it often takes this amount of time, depending on how many medicines and questions you have.
Can my family or carer come as well?
Of course, others can attend, if you wish. This is often preferred by many who have had previous appointments.
I have seen Margaret previously. Can I make another appointment?
Of course. This is a great way to follow-up on any changes that were then made to your medicines.
